Jonathan Grotsky: I would just like to mention that Jessica and myself met at the Matzo Ball 2003, and are getting married this January. We would like to thank you for having such a wonderful event. We are glad to be one of the success stories that you read about.
Kenny (Montreal): The Matzo Ball at Radius was definitely the highlight of my Florida vacation. Sweet party dudes!
Amy (Brookline): Just wanted to let you know that thanks to the Matzo Ball, I am engaged! Some friends and I went to the Matzo Ball at Avalon, where, despite the crowd, I met this really cool guy. We've been dating ever since and now we're engaged! We'll be married some time after this years Matzo Ball - Thanks for throwing a great party!
Tanya (New York): I was sitting around the house with nothing much to look forward to other than yet another showing of "It's A Wonderful Life" and "The Grinch That Stole Christmas." My Mom came by and told me about this Matzo Ball thing I should go to. I usually avoid singles events to begin with, but my Mom's urging made me even more resistant. But you have to give her credit, between her insistence and the non-stop televised holiday classics making me crazy, I figured it would be nice just to get out - anywhere but there! When I got to Radius, I was immediately impressed by the crowd - this was a happening party, not your typical singles shleppathon. It ended up being quite a fun night too, full of great music and great people. That's where I met Nathan as well. Next April we will have been married 3 years! Thanks Mom! Thanks Matzo Ball!
Adam (Boston): I was a bit bummed. All my friends were out of town and here I was stuck in Beantown on Christmas Eve. Of course I'd heard about the Matzo Ball but I never went - I figured it was not my scene. But this year it looked like I might not really have a choice. So I called a cab and headed down to Avalon figuring that at the very least, I'd spend this X-Mas suitably pickled. When I got in the place was jumping! But I was a man on a mission. I headed straight to the bar and ordered the first Whiskey on the rocks of what I hoped would be many. Drink in hand I turned around to survey the scene and bumped into Tali and her cosmopolitan. My shirt absorbed the brunt of the spillage - but I didn't care - Tali was gorgeous! Turns out she had just recently moved to Boston from New York and was embarassed by her inauspicious debut. That got us talking, and talking and talking... I never did get to have those drinks but this coming Matzo Ball will be our first anniversary. Needless to say, we'll be going to the Matzo Ball to celebrate!
Joyce Gerber: Each year around this time I tell myself I will write to add my story
to the Matzo Ball legend, and this year I am finally doing it. I
attended the 1989 Boston Matzo Ball, against all my better judgment,
because my friend asked me and I literally had nothing else to do. I
did not go with any expectation beyond meeting up with old camp
friends and Hebrew school buddies.I was sitting in what used to be
Axis, all alone because my friend was off dancing, and a young man
approached me and asked me to dance. He asked, I said O.K., and we
danced for a few hours with very little conversation (too hard to talk
on the dance floor). He wrote down his name on a bar napkin and when I
looked at it I saw that he had written his name as "Rick O'Conner." I
wasn't sure if it was a joke, but I laughed. Turns out he was not
Irish. I dated him for a while and in 1992 we were married. I still
have the napkin.
